The Red Bagels Charitable Trust Chevrah Kadisha’s Motivational Prize Program for Superheros

In Febraury’s blog we mentioned that Red Bagels is collaborating with the Chevra Kadisha on a special project as mentioned in the blog. This project has 1 aim: to provide the caregiver with incentive to continue with the challenging work of looking after those who have special needs and high-risk populations, some of whom need constant care. These groups are even more challenging to look after and incur higher expenses for their care due to COVID-19 and its complex consequences. First there is a reason to do this project with or without Corona. Then we will expound upon some of the impact that the virus causes for these workers.

As a tribute to acknowledge the high standards of the caregiving and nursing staff throughout Chevra Kadisha’s facilities for an expression of our appreciation for the extremely challenging work they do every day, we set up this fund. It expresses the gratitude to every staff member at the Chevra Kadisha. Even without Corona, this is a massive undertaking that can wear even the most incredible care worker down. On-going incentives for such care givers are essential. The amazing thing is that each organization is responsible to provide such incentives themselves. This includes NGOs which are usually under financial pressure and make extensive use of volunteers anyway.

“We wanted to do something to show our appreciation to the extremely dedicated, hard-working, and deserving staff who are employed by the Chevra Kadisha in their many departments of caregiving, cleaning, catering, and administration amongst the many others. To this end, we are so happy and proud to say that we made a donation towards a staff incentive program. The intention is to boost the morale of the staff and express our gratitude to them for their efforts in doing their demanding work in a happier environment knowing they are very much appreciated”. In order to appreciate what this incentive program means with Corona there is an elaboration on the quote from February’s blog below.

With the impacted of COVID-19, all the challenges have increased for frontline and essential services workers who are working at the Chevra Kadisha and other essential organizations servicing these vulnerable groups. Our fund is therefore essential at this time. Thank goodness we are able to make a significant impact with this initiative.

Everyone has been called on to give 100% of their time, energy, and skills to the fight against Corona and in addition to continue to look after these high risk and vulnerable populations. No one quite knows how much mental and physical strength and courage this would require, nor how long it would continue for, and adding lockdown to this mix, has made the situation seem unsurmountable. We were sailing in uncharted waters blindfolded. The Chevra Kadisha is placed in a more demanding situation, in that most of the people they assist are elderly and/or are in high-risk categories, such as special needs and handicaps of various types, some of whom have comorbidity issues.

This means that caregiving becomes much more complicated and the circumstances much more difficult to deal with. Therefore our project is certainly an oasis of happiness and an extra much needed helping hand in this uncertain time. It helps keep up the morale of the workers and gives them a reason to face risk with courage and not feel overwhelmed and alone. Red Bagels is excited to have rewarded a number of superheros who have benefited from this program by being acknowledge and receiving their prizes.

To this end, each month superheros will be identified and given their prizes. We will show case these superheros in this section in acknowledgement of their work. You can expect to see photographs of the recipients receiving their prizes each month. Thank you to each and every caregiver regardless of whether you receive a prize or not. We are very grateful and proud of all of you. Each day requires courage and strength. Thank you to everyone who volunteers and works at or for the Chevra Kadisha and other similar essential organizations, especially during this pandemic.

Have a beautiful day.
