December 2020

WHEW! I am sure that everyone is letting out a huge sigh of relief as we finish off one of the most challenging, life-changing years in recent history. A year that has been labeled by many as the year that wasn’t. Most of the world spent almost the entire year in some form of lockdown or another. Children spent most of their time in virtual reality schools doing classes via zoom and being isolated from friends and relatives, especially grandparents. While adults who could, were forced to work from home and also conduct most of their business, meetings, shopping and so on digitally with their children homeschooling, while trying to keep up some semblance of normality. We are very grateful to have survived and our thoughts are with those who suffered losses.

This is how the Red Bagels’ year ended with optimism after this tough year: we managed to navigate these new and turbulent waters and all the obstacles in our paths with sheer miracles. We were gratefully able to have put a few extra smiles onto the faces of those who had, unfortunately, had an even tougher year than most and some who experienced an exceptionally traumatic year and end on a note of happiness. This year was filled with numerous miricals and we hope they will continue into next year. With this in mind we were happy to report on our contribution to finishing 2020 on the highest note we could through helping 2 amazing institutions celebrate their 2020 year end.

A huge thank you to the Slovo Centre of Excellence for providing beautiful gifts for the Selwyn Segal Hostel end of year party. The residents loved the cuddly toys that will no doubt bring them comfort and smiles for a long while to come. In addition, we were happy to provided the people who made the gifts at Slovo Centre with an opportunity to earn an income so they too could have a better end to their year. Thank you to Naomi and Coneckt for supplying staff to entertain the children, they really enjoyed the games and shows that were provided. The extra cakes and treats were made by Selwyn Segal and the Ice cream machine that was donated by Red Bagels was put to good use providing ice cream too.

We were extremely happy that the children at the Ciniselani Center were also given great Christmas party sponsored by Red Bagels. Once again, the staff and teachers were given much appreciated Christmas bonuses by Red Bagels. It is unfortunate that we know that others will not be receiving their bonuses and hope that they too get the money they earned and deserve for their services.

A very happy and successful end to the year we certainly were Powered by love and committed to kindness. Enjoying bringing love and kindness into the world.
