July 2020

July was a very difficult month. The Coronavirus infection rate started increasing rapidly. Suddenly everyone realized that we were all vulnerable. Sadly we were hit with the reality that many people we knew were being infected, it was no longer something out there that we just talked about. Everyone seemed to know someone who was Corona positive. The numbers grew daily. Most people started taking things a lot more seriously and stayed indoors. When people did go out, they wore their masks and social distanced. However, the need for assistance and requests for food relief remained a top priority.

This month we received a request to assist an Afrika Tikkun project. We have worked with this wonderful charity before and were very keen to get on board with their new “Keep the wolf from the door” project.

This project initiated by Solly Krok for his 91st birthday was set up as a fundraiser to provide food to people in poor and rural communities. It has a target of R108million. The money is being used for immediate food relief funds and to make people more self-sufficient. The Red Bagels Trust thought that this inspirational fundraiser in combination with Afrika Tikkun provided us with a perfect opportunity to spread a huge amount of happiness in this month of incredible hardship and suffering. So we did it. With great joy and gratitude we are exceptionally proud to have been able to donate to this very worthy cause.

We also heard from The Ciniselani Centre that unfortunately, the children who had been at home for the past few months were once again without food due to the lockdown. The government funds had not been received and some of the children’s only meals would have been provided for them at school and who now did not have access to food were desperate. A few children walked many, many kilometers, to Patricia’s house. We saw that the children’s needs are a top priority.  We were all heartbroken by this incident. Sadly, Patricia had been in hospital, critically ill herself, so we only heard about the children’s plight when she called. Immediately we sent an emergency fund to them to provide them with food parcels.

We are so relieved and happy that Patricia is well and was able to ensure that everyone had enough food to carry on with for a while. We are so proud of the children who went to seek help. These are the brave heros because of them all the Ciniselani families will be going to sleep with full tummies and smiles.

Be the reason someone smiles today.

Have a beautiful day.
