August, I think that it is named for the kind of month it is, known as the windy month, as in gust (LOL). Hope it blows us all into the end run of the Coronavirus. Keeps everyone healthy and happy and brings only good things and success.
Having said that here in South Africa it started off on a brighter note as we were once again downgraded on the Coronavirus scale to lockdown level 2 and found ourselves a little freer. Businesses reopened and hopefully with that, the economy will start to pick up again and people start returning to work. However we have to remember that this does not mean that COVID-19 is over yet. So please let us keep wearing our masks and social distancing and help each other stay healthy so our numbers do not start going up again. In the meantime, there were a lot more hugs and laughter around as grandparents, children and grandchildren reunited for the first time in many months. This will hopefully contribute to people feeling better.
Red Bagels with the assistance of The Angel Network were able to source a new and highly nutritious type of porridge that is eaten as part of the staple diet of a large part of the South African population called epap. This was a really important discovery for us as many of the children from our school and their families who live in the rural areas were unfortunately not receiving much food. So besides being left very hungry most days the food they were eating was not very satisfying and certainly not as nutritious as it should have been.
The new pap known as epap is not only extremely nutritious, it is also a low GI product. This means even if one eats less of it, it will be filling, more satisfying, and keep everyone feeling satisfied for longer and best of all it is more economical. To add more happiness, it comes in 4 different, delicious flavours. Report backs from our children at Ciniselani are to quote: “it’s yummy”. We couldn’t be happier. Now when we put our heads on our pillows at night we can sleep peacefully knowing that the children have a full tummy and are well nourished. There is a bonus, namely, one can bake bread with it or make pancakes and much more, which also gives a bit of variety to the meals.
We would also like to express our gratitude to the Angel Network for the very generous donation we received of 180 bags of nutritious and delicious soup, that were also handed out to the children of the Ciniselani Centre. These bags of soup contain all the ingredients needed, so that all that needs to be done is to add 5 litres of water to the contents of the bag and boil. This will provide 2 meals each for a family of 5 people. These were very well received especially during the cold winter days that we are currently experiencing.
We are also really happy to once again be able to send a donation to R9million fund for food partnership for the amazing work they are doing.
Another awesome month of spreading happiness far and wide.
