October is a month during which we would generally take a small break to catch our breath after a usually very busy month of September and start preparing for the end of year rush. This year however we were happy that we hardly noticed the slowdown and were able to contribute to some great projects.
Red Bagels involve ourselves in a project that we felt completely aligned with our vision to restore the rights of everyone to be treated with humanity and dignity. It is to this end that we are excited to share our next project.
Ususally we do not post so many pictures. Pictures usually disrupt the flow of an article. However a picture is worth 1000 words as they say and these pictures are certainly important to add. Feel free to skip them and come back to them after you read the whole article or view them here as they appear. Thank you for your understanding.

Sadly pit toilets are here to stay. While it would be a logistical nightmare to install millions of toilets around the country, we received an appeal to support a company that has an innovative solution called PitFix to restore some dignity to those using pit toilets. How can we expect people to sanitize when their pit toilets are so degrading and disgusting? Is a product that not only cleans toilets, but diffuses the foul smell and gets rid of flies.
A Government that cannot feed its people, certainly cannot afford to offer them clean toilet. Therefore it’s up to companies like this to make the environment cleaner and more decent. We have undertaken to sponsor a number of toilets to be cleaned for a period of a year. We look forward to the day when all people will live hygienically and with more dignity.
Red Bagles gave a donation to the iSchool Africa educational trust, Spin for Literacy Event. This is a cause extremely near and dear to our hearts as it is one of the best ways for South Africa to address our extremely high unemployment problem. When people are literate they are empowered.
The funds will be used towards setting up an iSchool Africa digital library in a rural or township schools in each of South Africa’s nine provinces. Each library will consist of a mobile iPad lab supported by curriculum-based apps, award-winning numeracy, and literacy software, access to a full library, teacher training modules, dedicated programme facilitators, and mentors. Empowering our youth to succeed, iSchool Africa brings the best technology and classroom practices to these schools. Through their programs they successfully uplift and improve the lives and futures of the youth of South Africa.
A further donation was given to the Chevra Kadisha. Our contribution is aimed at assisting people with life threatening and terminally ill patients to receive life-saving medical treatment.
Another month of kindness and the satisfaction of knowing we were once more able to make a difference and bring some extra happiness into the world.
